A Sample from Our Battle Cry
Here’s a small piece of the book — from the chapter “What Is the Hardest Thing I’ve Experienced as a Military Spouse?” A month before her due date, Jennifer’s husband deployed for six months. This is where the chapter begins.

If someone were to ask me today, “What is the hardest thing you’ve experienced as a military spouse? What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve gone through?” I would tell them it was when my husband deployed right before our second child was born.
So a month before my due date, my husband said goodbye for six months…
I went in and talked to my new doctor about the birth plan at the hospital. I told her my husband was deployed and we were planning on doing a webcam birth.
The look on her face was one I haven’t actually seen very much ever. It was a look of almost rage — like, “How dare you?”
I went home that night and I was a wreck. Because for that one second, the only thing I had was taken away… I just remember thinking, “God, how did you do this to me?”
In that one second, I just felt so abandoned and so upset. I felt like God was saying to me, “It’s not a bad thing that you want your husband at your child’s birth. That’s a good thing… But even that — I want you to lay it down at the altar.”
